There is a deliberate flatness in the physical spaces created to increase the cinematographic quality that one can relate to like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” or the “The Darjeeling Limited” by Wes Anderson.
We wanted to create a lively environment that has different pockets of spaces sporting different spatial feel; each space almost like a photo-booth station on its own with an overall theme tying the spaces together.
Given a name that plays with the pun of the Korean 4-ball Pool Game, “Thirsty 4 Balls”, we came up with the concept of a “Pool-Bar”. Taking references from spaces of a typical swimming pool, key areas like “Grandstand”, “Jacuzzi”, “Tuckshop”, “Lap Pool”, etc, are the spatial ideas generator behind the whole entertainment space.
The result of the concept is a colourful, multiple Instagram-able spots pool saloon, that has since attracted various social influencer to visit and use as a backdrop for their Instagram photos. There is a deliberate flatness in the physical spaces created to increase the cinematographic quality that one can relate to like “The Grand Budapest Hotel” or the “The Darjeeling Limited” by Wes Anderson.
The whole saloon is littered with trendy objects and neon signs that reminds one of the game or iconic elements of a swimming pool. In order to fit in the number of pool tables with its respective setbacks, we are only left with very small areas for sitting and the bar counter. This limits the area where we can express the spatial concept effectively. The counter was deliberately designed to remind one of the usual tuck-shop where you hang around for quick hunger fix after swimming.
